I remember the special times and the times that seemed boring to me, but that's the stuff I remember. Him talking me out fishing on Alamosook Lake by his house. Going over to his house to spend the night with Dom, when my parents were having the annual police party at my house. Going to get his new puppy and letting me pick him out, but Grampy got to pick the name. Going to take him for walks down the long dirt winding road that leads to his house.I remember this one specific moment when grampie helped reel up this ginormous fish or what seemed huge to me at the moment. I was so excited at the moment when I set the hook and I could feel it start to pull and restrain against my will. I was on the beach right by the house and started yelling to my grampie "I got a fish, I got a fish". Grampie was there in a instant. When he finally reeled in the fish it was tangled in weeds adding on much more weight then it actually weighed. It was only a small little catfish.
There was another time when Dom and I went to stay the night. I remember Dom always have really bad allergy's when we were younger and how the pollen and dog hairs use to make his eyes intensely red, puffy, and itchy. Then came Grampie with some type of allergy medicine for Dom. I felt like he was always there for us. Now that I'm sitting here writing this, I realized how much a do truly miss him. I'm trying to hold back these tears, but it's so hard when a love one passes away. He wasn't just my Grandfather or dad to others but he was more of friend to me.

Jack....:( I'm so close to tears I'm sorry you lost your grampie. Just know he is in a better place now.
ReplyDeleteGeesh, Jack, you made me cry too. This is why this blogging thing is so great. You got to relive some lost moments with your grandfather. Writing can help us recapture the past. It's that powerful.
